Positioned at the spectacular tip of Tasmania’s South Arm Peninsula, Arm End is a proposed new public golf course on one of southern Tasmania’s most dramatic coastal sites. Surrounded by water on three sides and overlooking the Derwent estuary, the property lies near Opossum Bay, approximately 45 kilometres by road from central Hobart.
The current course has been designed by acclaimed Australian golf architecture firm OCM – Ogilvy, Cocking & Mead, who became involved with the project in 2023. The extraordinary natural setting incorporates coastal dunes, cliffs, beaches and headlands, with water expected to be visible throughout the course.
Plans for Arm End extend beyond golf, with environmental restoration and public recreational infrastructure forming part of the broader vision for the property.
Arm End is not currently open for golf and construction of the course has not been completed. The development has experienced an extended planning and approvals process, and no confirmed opening date is currently available.
For golfers planning a Tasmania golf holiday, Arm End should therefore be considered a future addition to the state’s growing collection of destination golf courses rather than a course that can presently be included in an itinerary. Tasmania Golf Travel will update course and booking information as the development progresses. Consider playing 7 Mile Beach South Course and Royal Hobart Golf Course during the building phase of Arm End’s development.
The proposed Arm End layout has been designed by OCM – Ogilvy, Cocking & Mead to take advantage of the remarkable coastal landscape of the South Arm Peninsula.
Current design information indicates that approximately half of the holes will interact directly with the coastline, while the elevated and exposed nature of the peninsula is expected to provide extensive water views throughout the round.
The design philosophy emphasises minimal earthworks and the use of Arm End’s existing landforms to create the course. Wide fairways, natural contours and firm fescue playing surfaces are proposed, with Tasmania’s coastal winds expected to play an important role in strategy and shot selection.
If completed as envisioned, the combination of dunes, cliffs, beaches, promontories and expansive views across the Derwent could create a distinctive new golf experience within easy reach of Hobart.
As the course has not yet been constructed or opened for play, final specifications, hole lengths, par and playing characteristics remain subject to change. Tasmania Golf Travel will update this information once the final course is established and official specifications are released.
Arm End Golf Course is not currently operational, and golf facilities such as a clubhouse, pro shop, practice areas and visitor amenities are not presently available.
Plans for the broader Arm End development have included public walking and recreational infrastructure alongside the golf course, reflecting a wider vision for the coastal property.
Final details regarding the clubhouse, practice facilities, golf carts, equipment hire, food and beverage services and other visitor facilities should be confirmed as the project progresses towards construction and opening.
There is currently no confirmed opening date, and travellers should not plan a Tasmania golf itinerary around playing Arm End at this stage.
Once the course becomes available for play, Tasmania Golf Travel will provide updated information regarding Arm End tee times, golf packages and its inclusion within Hobart and southern Tasmania golf itineraries.
