Perched high amongst the coastal dunes of north-east Tasmania, Bougle Run is Barnbougle’s 14-hole short course and a wonderfully entertaining complement to the resort’s two internationally acclaimed championship layouts, Barnbougle Dunes and Lost Farm.
Designed by Bill Coore of Coore & Crenshaw, Bougle Run opened in 2021 and occupies some of the highest ground on the Barnbougle property. Set amongst the dunes between the front and back nines of Lost Farm, its elevated position provides sweeping views across the surrounding links, Anderson Bay and Tasmania’s spectacular north-east coastline.
The layout comprises 12 par-3s and two short, drivable par-4s, creating a fast-paced and highly enjoyable round that typically takes around 90 minutes. While shorter and more relaxed than its famous neighbours, Bougle Run is far from an afterthought. Its imaginative green complexes, natural contours and exposure to the coastal winds provide a genuine test of short-game skill and creative shot-making.
For golfers visiting Barnbougle, Bougle Run is an ideal addition before or after a round on Dunes or Lost Farm – particularly for an afternoon game, a friendly competition or simply another opportunity to experience this extraordinary Tasmanian golf landscape.
Bougle Run is a 14-hole, par-57 short course measuring approximately 2,148 metres (2,349 yards). Twelve par-3s are joined by two short par-4s that can be reachable from the tee in favourable conditions, providing plenty of opportunities for attacking golf.
The course climbs, falls and changes direction through undulating coastal dunes, with tees and greens positioned across elevated ridgelines and within natural hollows. Bill Coore’s routing makes clever use of the existing terrain, resulting in holes that feel naturally embedded within the landscape rather than extensively constructed.
Although Bougle Run sits slightly inland from the immediate coastline, its elevated position exposes golfers to Barnbougle’s ever-changing winds. Holes play in numerous directions, meaning club selection and trajectory can change significantly throughout the round. The emphasis is on precision, distance control and imagination rather than power.
The short format also allows the green complexes to take centre stage. Contours, slopes and surrounding run-off areas create numerous ways to play each hole, encouraging everything from high approaches to creative running shots along the firm turf.
Quick enough to play in around 90 minutes but interesting enough to warrant a place on any Barnbougle itinerary, Bougle Run captures much of what makes golf in Tasmania so distinctive in a compact and entertaining format.
Bougle Run shares the extensive facilities of the wider Barnbougle golf resort, with the Lost Farm clubhouse conveniently located nearby. The clubhouse includes a fully licensed restaurant and bar serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with a more relaxed sports bar and male and female changing facilities. The pro shop stocks golf equipment and Barnbougle merchandise, with hire clubs and pull trolleys available for visiting golfers.
Practice facilities across the property include putting and short-game areas, while caddies and golf tuition can also be arranged.
A range of on-site Barnbougle accommodation makes Bougle Run particularly easy to incorporate into a multi-day golf stay. Lost Farm Lodge offers hotel-style rooms with golf course or ocean views close to the clubhouse, while additional villas and cottages are available elsewhere across the Barnbougle property.
