Set on a spectacular headland overlooking Barilla Bay, Tasmania Golf Club is one of southern Tasmania’s most scenic and highly regarded golf courses. Tasmania Golf Club was established at its present location in 1971, following the relocation of the former Lindisfarne Golf Club. The course was designed by respected Australian golf architect Al Howard, who created a challenging layout across a naturally undulating promontory surrounded by water on three sides.
The course has a distinguished tournament history, having hosted the Australian Amateur Championship, Australian Women’s Amateur, Australian Junior Amateur and Tasmanian Open. Its combination of mature tree-lined fairways, significant elevation changes and exposure to the winds sweeping across Barilla Bay has established Tasmania Golf Club as an important championship test. Tasmania Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 championship course measuring 6,212 metres (6,793 yards) from the back tees, with Al Howard’s routing making excellent use of the natural contours of its Barilla Bay headland.
The coastal setting is apparent throughout the round. Water surrounds the property on three sides, while undulating fairways move through stands of mature native trees and across continually changing terrain. Elevated sections provide expansive views across Barilla Bay and the surrounding landscape, creating one of the most picturesque golf settings in southern Tasmania.
Accuracy from the tee is particularly important. Tall gums frame many of the playing corridors, while changes in elevation and strategic bunkering require golfers to consider both position and angle rather than relying solely on distance.
The wind across Barilla Bay provides another important defence. Conditions can vary considerably from one round to another, particularly on the more exposed sections of the course, changing effective hole lengths and requiring golfers to control trajectory and adapt their club selection.
Howard’s routing works closely with the existing slopes of the property, with greens positioned naturally into, across and above the surrounding contours. Combined with the elevation changes and coastal conditions, this produces a varied test that rewards thoughtful course management and precise approach play.

Tasmania Golf Club provides a comprehensive range of facilities for members and visiting golfers, centred around a clubhouse overlooking the waters of Barilla Bay.
The clubhouse includes bar and dining facilities, providing an attractive setting for a meal or post-round drink while taking in views across the course and surrounding water. Function facilities are also available for private and corporate events.
