Located at Prospect Vale on the outskirts of Launceston, Country Club Tasmania combines championship golf with the facilities of one of northern Tasmania’s leading integrated resorts. Set across approximately 300 acres of rolling parkland, the property provides an entirely different golfing environment from the coastal links courses for which Tasmania is famous.
Golf has been part of Country Club Tasmania since 1982, when its original course opened with a design by five-time Open Champion Peter Thomson and Michael Wolveridge. The resort is now entering a new era with a major redevelopment and an entirely reimagined Championship Golf Course designed by Robin Gibson.
Scheduled to open in summer 2026/27, the new 18-hole, par-72 layout is being positioned as Tasmania’s premier parkland championship golf experience. The design incorporates mature trees, lakes, approximately six kilometres of winding creek and expansive sand-capped playing surfaces within the established landscape of the Country Club estate.

The new 18-hole, par-72 Championship Golf Course has been designed by Australian golf course architect Robin Gibson, with an emphasis on retaining and incorporating the natural character of Country Club Tasmania’s established parkland.
Rather than extensively reshaping the property, the routing uses existing mature trees, historic stone bridges, rolling terrain and waterways to define the golfing experience. Approximately six kilometres of creek meanders through the course and feeds two lakes, bringing water strategically into play across the layout.
Among the most distinctive holes is the 10th, an area historically known as Love Island, where the existing landscape and water features have been incorporated into a visually striking golf hole. A dam wall conceals portions of the playing area while strategic bunkering influences the approach into the green.
The redevelopment introduces expansive fairways and considerably larger, more contoured putting surfaces than those of the previous course. Undulation across the greens is expected to make positioning on approach particularly important, while four sets of tees on every hole will allow the course to accommodate golfers across a broad range of abilities.
Importantly for Tasmania’s seasonal conditions, the course has been constructed using sand-capped fairways, designed to improve drainage and provide firmer, more consistent playing surfaces throughout the year.
